I recently presented at an International Council of Museums (ICOM) conference here in Vancouver. The conference was organized by ICOM’s Collections and Activities of Museums of Cities committee (CAMOC), and was hosted by the Museum of Vancouver.

I participated in the first plenary event, which was a series of five Ignite talks. An Ignite talk is a short presentation aimed at sparking dialogue and generating interest on a given subject. During a 5 minute Ignite talk, the presenter speaks as a slideshow plays, with 20 slides that advance automatically every 15 seconds.

My Ignite talk was on my Master’s research, so it was quite challenging to distill hundreds of pages into a 5 minute speech. I necessarily had to cut some things out, but it was still an exciting exercise.

Here is a video I made of my Ignite talk as I was practicing it.
